Gdy kilka lat temu młody duński pianista Rasmus Ehlers zaprosił George'a Garzone na Copenhagen Jazz Festival, nikt nie przypuszczał, że będzie to początkiem dłuższej współpracy. Sam koncert okazał się wydarzeniem tej edycji festiwalu, od wielu już lat największego jazzowego festiwalu w Europie (co roku ponad 1 tyś. koncertów w ciągu 10 dni). Skłąd kwartetu uzupełniali Jonas Westergaard na kontrabasie i Jakob Hoyer za perkusją. Ten urodzony w muzykującej rodzinie włoskich emigrantów chłopak od najmłodszych lat żył z muzyką wykonywaną na co dzień za pan brat. Sam wspomina ten melodyjny, romantyczny styl wykonawczy, kultywowany w rodzinie Garzone. George w ocenie wielu jazzowych gigantów to "mistrz saksofonu", tak o nim mówił np. Michael Brecker. Z jednej strony świetny muzyk (Kenny Barron, Harvie Swartz, Dan Gottlieb, John Pattitucci, Bill Stewart, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Tom Harrell, Don Alias, Danilo Perez, Lenny White, Joe Lovano, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, Gary Peacock, Dennis Chambers, Cecil McBee, Dave Holland, Bob Moses, Dave Liebman), z drugiej ceniony nauczyciel, wykładowca wielu prestiżowych uczelni muzycznych Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory, Longy School of Music, New York University, The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Pod jego czujnym okiem nabierali jazzowej ogłady tacy muzucy jak Joshua Redman, Branford Marsalis, Mindi Abair, Teadross Avery, Luciana Souza, Mark Turner, Donny McCaslin, Doug Yates czy Danilo Pérez. Drugi głos na płycie należy do Franka Tiberi'ego, który przez wiele lat był filarem Woody Herman Orchestra. Skład Rasmus Ehlers Trio nie uległ zmianie, na kontrabasie Jonas Westergaard, jeden z najbardziej rozchwytywanych kontrabasistów w Skandynawii, za perkusją Jakob Hoyer (Jakob Bro, Tom Harrell, Povl Dissing, Jacob Anderskov).Muzyka kwintetu, ani zbyt awangardowa, ani zbyt zachowawcza, może liczyć na życzliwość fanów jazzu o bardzo zróżnicowanych gustach. Każdy znajdzie tu dla coś dla siebie, np. miłośnicy jazzowych ballad będą zachwyceni "W.S." Ehlersa, zaś fani standardów – "Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise" Romberga/Hammersteina w kapitalnej aranżacji Franka Tiberi'ego. Post-Coltrane’owski "Minor Delight" Ehlersa, który jest dostarczycielem czterech z dziewięciu kompozycji to już kawał mięsistego jazzu z karkołomnymi solówkami obu saksofonistów. Audiofilska jakość techniczna dodaje nagraniu siłę, pazur i selektywność. 16 marca 2011 w Nowm Jorku wokalistka i autorka piosenek, Madeleine Peyroux, zaprezentowała dwa utwory ze swojego zapowiadanego albumu,Standin’ On The Rooftop, który dostępny będzie w polskich sklepach od 10 czerwca. Dzięki producentowi albumu, Craigowi Streetowi (Norah Jones, k.d. Lang, Cassandra Wilson) i udziałowi Marka Ribota (gitara, banjo) i Me’shell Ndegeocello (bas) Peyroux mogła zabrać swoich fanów w podróż do nowych brzmień jazzu i całkiem nowej wrażliwości.Album zawiera min. melancholijną wersję dawnego przeboju The Beatles Martha, My Dear oraz nową kompozycję, The Things I’ve Seen Today, która powstała we współpracy z piosenkarką i skrzypaczką, Jenny Scheinman. Oprócz udziału wyżej wspomnianych muzyków na płycie wystąpili ponadto: Charley Drayton (Neil Young, Johnny Cash) na perkusji i gitarzysta, Chris Bruce (Seal, John Legend).Kolejne utwory Peyroux zaprezentowała w kwietniu, a premiera całego albumu Standin’ on the Rooftop przewidziana jest na 7 czerwca 2011 przez wytwórnię Decca Records.W 2004 roku Peyroux wdarła się na listy przebojów dzięki albumowi Careless Love. Płyta błyskawicznie osiągnęła status złotej w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Sprzedała się w ponad 2 milionach egzemplarzy i znalazła się w ścisłej czołówce najlepszych albumów roku. Artystka od tamtej pory wyrobiła sobie wysoką pozycję jako świetna interpretatorka utworów od Boba Dylana do standardów jazzowych, a jej ostatni album, Bare Bones (2009) pokazał, że świetnie daje sobie radę także jako autorka tekstów i kompozytorka.

The highly-gifted violinist and dancing master Pantaleon Hebenstreit (1667-1750) came upon the idea of devoting himself to the dulcimer and to try to see if he could perfect it and produce on it that which he was capable of on the clavier. He considerably enlarged the range of the rustic type of instrument and turned the diatonic instrument into a chromatic one. He achieved such skill on his perfected dulcimer that he progressed in a breathtaking career to being one of the most popular virtuosos of his time. In 1705 he performed at Versailles in front of Louis XIV (who supposedly named the instrument after its inventor). In 1708 he played for the Emperor in Vienna and was finally appointed as pantaleonist to membership of the Hofkapelle of Dresden, the most famous European orchestra at the time, in 1714. Hebenstreit had several pupils who achieved great fame. One of these was Maximillian Hellmann, for whom Caldara had composed in Vienna. It is highly likely that the popularity of the pantaleon prepared the ground for the later triumphant progress of the pianoforte (Hammerklavier): Around 1730 several central-German clavier-makers experimented with the mechanism of hammers hitting from above. Different string materials and the choice of hammers, which could be covered with different materials, lent the pantaleon an overwhelming richness of tone-colours and the possibility of great dynamic differentiation. The considerable range, the possibility of using two-voice strokes and arpeggios to describe the harmony, and the richness of sounds and colours raised the pantaleon to the rank of an instrument, »which from a miserable dulcimer has become the most complete of instruments, even more perfect than the claveci« (Stählin 1770), »in as much as it is the true forte piano, because our modern fortepiano is completely overshadowed by it.« (Kachel 1792) As reasons for the disappearance of the instrument in the second half of the 18th century, unresolved constructional problems, the unwieldy size of the instrument, the difficulties of tuning it and the high cost of maintaining the many strings (above all the gut strings), but also the tremendous difficulties of mastering the instrument are cited. Unfortunately no pantaleon exists to assist our attempt to get on the trail of the legendary instrument: the current state of research offers too few reference points for a reconstruction. Not a single original has survived, there are no construction designs or technically concrete descriptions whatsoever and similarly no definite illustrations of the instrument. The modern chromatic tenor dulcimer from Salzburg seems to us for the moment therefore to offer the best possibility of nearing the sound of the pantaleon - at least in its form with metal strings.
