Brett Gurewitz i Greg Graffin - autorzy całego repertuaru na "The Dissent Of Man" - przyznają skromnie, że ostatnie dwie płyty Bad Religion miały raczej charakter konserwatywny, to znaczy - poruszały się po dobrze znanym wszystkim fanom zespołu terytorium. Tym razem jest inaczej. Nowy album - ich zdaniem - to nowy rozdział w karierze Bad Religion: dokładnie taki, jakim w przeszłości były ich klasyczne dziś płyty "Recipe" i "Stranger Than Fiction", definiujące punk rock z Zachodniego Wybrzeża.. Pod okiem producenta Joe Barrosi'ego (Queens Of The Stone Age, Tool) w rzeczy samej powstał album bardziej zróżnicowany, na jakim odżył duch muzycznej przygody, będący przez lata znakiem znakiem rozpoznawczym Bad Religion. Obok natychmiast rozpoznawalnych dla fanów punkrockowych hymnów ("The Day The Earth Stood Stalled"), znalazły się tu utwory bliższe stylistyce klasycznego rocka ("Cyanide") oraz wyraźnie adresowane do szerszej publiczności przebojowe kawałki, po które z pewnością chętnie.

The thirteen works recorded here range from the contemplative of the Nunc dimittis to the ceremonial of an anthem such as At the round earth’s imagined corners where the familiar Donne text receives a thoroughly fresh interpretation.
