Pierwszą piosenkę na płytę "Ash", także zatytułowaną "Ash" (ang. "popiół"), siostry Lisa-Kaindé i Naomi Díaz z duetu Ibeyi napisały podczas amerykańskich wyborów. Pomimo ciężaru unoszącego się w powietrzu, Ibeyi postanowiły napisać coś niosącego pozytywne emocje w czasie, gdy nadzieja wydawała się stracona. Popioły mają zazwyczaj konotacje żałobne i sugerują rozpad. "Możemy wykorzystać popiół w pozytywny sposób" - mówi Naomi. "Popiół może nawozić ziemię" - dodaje Lisa-Kaindé. "Zawsze jest nadzieja." To stało się tematem przewodnim całego albumu. Na swojej pierwszej płycie Ibeyi zmagały się z przeszłością - siostrzaną relacją, pochodzeniem, stratą. Zapewniło im to fanów oraz współpracowników wśród najsłynniejszych i najważniejszych współczesnych artystów, jak Beyoncé i Alvin Ailey. Kontrastujący z tym, co było do tej pory "Ash" jest bardziej instynktowny i mocno polityczny. Choć ciągle zakorzeniony w afro-kubańskiej historii i kulturze, całkowicie skoncentrowany na teraźniejszości.
