Wybitny kompozytor pochodzący z Rosji Piotr Iljicz Czajkowski, urodzony w 1840 roku w Wotkińsku, zmarł w 1893 roku w Petersburgu. Był on prekursorem późniejszej muzyki rosyjskiej. Nauki pobierał pod baczny okiem Antona Rubinsteina i N.I. Zaremby, skończywszy konserwatorium w Petersburgu w 1866 roku, został teoretykiem muzyki w konserwatorium w Moskwie i piastował to stanowisko przez 11 lat.
