Niniejsza płyta stanowi zestawienie twórczości dwóch muzycznych rodów: tego największego, bez którego trudno wyobrazić sobie dziś historię muzyki nowożytnej – rodu Bachów – oraz niemal całkowicie zapomnianego i zepchniętego na margines świadomości, mającego polskie korzenie, rodu Podbielskich. Z tej konkurencji wyłaniają się cztery wyjątkowe osobowości – każda zanurzona w swoim czasie i operująca indywidualnym stylem wypowiedzi. Wspólnym mianownikiem utworów przedstawionych na płycie jest wyjątkowy instrument, który uważany był za czasów Johanna Sebastiana Bacha za doskonały - viola da gamba.
