Marguerite of Austria (1480-1530) lived a sad life, by the time she was thirty she was berieved of her child, family and a future on the French throne. Nevertheless, Marguerite was artistically gifted and enjoyed the comforting company of writers, musicians and composers at her court in Mechelen. Her library is a "mer à boire" of exceptional musical manuscripts. Musical works reflecting the grief and unhappiness of the narrator fill the greater part of a splendid manuscript housed nowadays in the Bibliothèque Royale in Brussels; it was undoubtedly prepared for Marguerite between 1508 and 1516 in full awareness of her musical tastes and her predilection for mournful subjects. The program on this cd by La Morra is largely based on music preserved in this manuscript.La Morra (2000) has performed in many renowned Early Music events across Europe, including Belgian Festival van Vlaanderen, Dutch Network Oude Muziek, etc. The ensemble (4-7 musicians) is usually heard in various vocal and instrumental constellations which vary according to the requirements of performed repertoire. La Morra 's first CD recording Le Jardin de Plaisance was enthousiastically received: "…skillful and involving is Le Jardin de plaisance…. To hear these pieces performed so elegantly is to be reminded why one fell in love with this music; and there are times when such a reminder is timely". Early Music

  Carus presents three fascinating works for the Passiontide on volume 6 of the complete recording of Heinrich Schütz. Heinrich Schütz expressed musically the central message of the Christian thinking in the work The Seven Words of Jesus on the cross SWV 178.  So this mostly enigmatic work is similarly in a theological and musical way fascinating. The mostly unknown sarced concert for four violins and voice, Have mercy upon me, O God SWV 447 (first world recording) for the Good Friday service, represents a delightful addition to the Seven Words of Jesus. The St Lukas Passion SWV 480 unfolds a kind of panorama which invites the listener to an intensive and quiet viewing of the passion.

Ta płyta to kolejne odkrycie. Dwie z czterech prezentowanych sonat zostały nagrane po raz pierwszy. A i kompozytor mało znany słuchaczom - Louis-Gabriel Guillemain - skrzypek-wirtuoz na dworze Ludwika XV. Zasłynął z ekstrawaganckiego stylu życia i niezwykłej impulsywności. Zginął w tajemniczych okolicznościach. Jego sonaty są pewnego rodzaju „zapisem” stylu rozmów prowadzonych na dworze. Pełne są pomysłowości, nowoczesnych technicznych „chwytów”, zaskakujących struktur melodyczno-rytmicznych. Jak na czas, w którym powstały - są bardzo innowacyjne. Jest to zarazem premierowa płyta Ensemble Barockin. Międzynarodowy skład zespołu (muzycy z Rosji, Japonii i Francji) zapewnia ciekawą różnorodność, która jest wręcz pożądana dla tej muzyki. I w ten sposób otrzymaliśmy bardzo ciekawy efekt - interesujące wykonanie nieznanej dotąd, acz fascynującej muzyki rodem z XVIII-wiecznej Francji.
