BACH WOHLTEMP CLAVIER II 3CD

Oratorium o tematyce wielkopostnej włoskiego kompozytora epoki baroku Luigiego Rossi.

The oldest American Bach Choir, The Bach Choir of Bethlehem performs, on their first recording on the Analekta label, works celebrating the Creator by J.S. Bach and Vivaldi. Such renowned singers as Daniel Taylor, Daniel Lichti and Benjamin Butterfield are joining conductor Greg Funfgeld on this glorious recording. This recording could have been titled "Glorious Glorias,” since the first of these three works ends with the Gloria Patri, the second is a setting of the Gloria in excelsis Deo, and the third conjoins the Gloria in excelsis Deo with the Gloria Patri.

Following his sensational CD with Haydn sonatas on Haydn’s piano in Haydn’s home (Gramola 98847), the American fortepiano specialist resident in Vienna, Richard Fuller, has now released a programme with piano pieces by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. The works by the composer apostrophized by Mozart in the words ‘He is the father, and we are the children’ and a representative of the ‘sentimental style’ are testimonies of an expressive and very private diction. They mostly derive from the collection Für Kenner und Liebhaber, the fifth part of which is reproduced here in full, as well as a final fantasia of 1787, a kind of requiem ‘for himself’, subtitled ‘C.P.E. Bach’s feelings’.

Kantaty kościelne Telemanna w rewelacyjnym wykonaniu zespołu Cantus Cölln.

The 15th and 16th centuries were the golden age of Flemish polyphony. Dufay, Josquin, Isaac and many others were among the composers most celebrated in the major courts of Europe. In terms of both their methods and their musical output, these composers transmitted a style characterised by complex counterpoint and a remarkable sense of musical architecture. Ludwig Senfl had the highest regard for these qualities. Under the influence of his teacher Heinrich Isaac, he made the Flemish idiom his own, while adding to it obvious personal touches.Making the present selection has brought home to us what a privilege it is to be able to choose from an output of such quality – yet how frustrating it is to have to do so! We have done no more than lift one small corner of the veil beneath which Senfl’s masterly oeuvre lies hidden. Nearly 500 years after his death, a large part of his output remains consigned to musical history, completely unknown to both music-lovers and performers. We hope that this recording will demonstrate how unjustly Senfl’s reputation has been obscured by that of his teacher Isaac; for us, his music has been a revelation and a source of huge musical pleasure.
