„Głównym bohaterem” niniejszej płyty jest klarnet, na co wskazuje dedykacja dla Benny'ego Goodmana, legendarnego jazzmana zwanego „Królem swingu”, który grę na tym instrumencie podniósł do rangi sztuki. To właśnie dla niego Aaron Copland napisał w 1948 r. Koncert będący centralnym punktem programu nagrania. A ponieważ solistą jest tu absolwent gdańskiej Akademii Muzycznej, Andrzej Wojciechowski, autorami pozostałych utworów są młodzi twórcy związani z gdańskim środowiskiem muzycznym. Wszystkie prezentowane tu kompozycje charakteryzują się przełamywaniem barier między różnymi stylami muzycznymi oraz poszukiwaniem języka wyrazu, który nie tracąc wartości artystycznej jest dostępny szerokiemu gronu odbiorców.

Chyba po raz pierwszy, Ars Antiqua Austria pod przewodem Gunara Letzbora mierzy się z muzyką Johanna Josepha Fuxa, kapelmistrza trzech austriackich cesarzy - Leopolda I, Józefa I oraz Karola VI - i od razu porwał się za uchodzące za nadzwyczaj trudne Partity. Wirtuozerski styl gry Letzbora predestynuje zresztą austriackiego skrzypka do interpretacji tego typu kompozycji. Rozmiłowany w technice instrumentalista uwielbia szybkie partie i w tych tempach utrzymane kompozycje w jego wykonaniu potrafią olśnić słuchaczy. Tak jest tutaj - Alllegro czy Passacaglia z Partity ex g K 320 zauroczą nas od pierwszej zagranej nutki. Ale tutaj Letzbor pokazuje, że potrafi znacznie więcej. Na mnie bowiem największe wrażenie robi niezwykle skomplikowana metrycznie Partita ex d K 332 gdzie niezwykłe partie [Uwertura czy absolutnie szalona Siciljana] gra w duecie z Ilją Korolem. Ars Antiqua Austria imponuje jednak nie tylko pewnością czy techniczną maestrią i wirtuozerskim opanowaniem instrumentarium. Muzyka Fuxa w ich interpretacji jest nie tylko bardzo zdyscyplinowana - nawet wtedy, gdy przydają mu nieco szaleństwa, ale też bardzo silnie nasycona emocjami, co do tej pory, mam wrażenie, nie stanowi bardzo silnej strony interpretacji Letzbora. Tutaj wszystko skrzy się uczuciem i ekspresją od pierwszego dźwięku. W tym nagraniu pokazuje, że jako muzyk i dyrygent naprawdę nie ma słabych stron.

In 1735, Johann Sebastian Bach entrusted the second part of his Clavier-Übung to a Nuremburg engraver. The two pieces brought together in the second part of the Clavier-Übung, the Concerto in the Italian Style, and the Overture in the French Manner, share more than one unifying element, and present several very particular aspects, within the work of the composer, as well as within the style of keyboard composition then current in Europe. The Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue (BWV 903), along with the Prelude, Fugue and Allegro (BWV 998), are »isolated« pieces, not belonging to a cycle or a designed group. The variety of affects, majestically organised by the composer of these four pieces, reflects his mastery of the different styles. Modest in the dance movements, intermediate in the Prelude, Fugue and Allegro, sublime in the Overture, and blending all these as he pleases in the Concerto and the Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue, he »restores« our spirits in a rich, convincing and most touching way.
