22 kwietnia 2016 przypada stulecie urodzin legendarnego skrzypka i dyrygenta Yehudi Menuhina. Daniel Hope dedykuje nowy album właśnie Menuhinowi - swojemu dawnemu mistrzowi i przyjacielowi.Po ucieczce z rządzonej przez appatrheid Republiki Południowej Afryki matka Daniela znalazła się w Anglii, gdzie zaproponowano jej pracę w charakterze sekretarki samego Yehudi Menuhina, którego została później managerem. Daniel Hope tak wspomina swojego mistrza:„To dzięki Yehudi Menuhinowi zostałem skrzypkiem. Miałem zaszczyt znać go przez całe życie – mówię często, że znalazłem się na jego kolanach, jako dwuletnie dziecko... Menuhin często nazywał się moim „muzycznym dziadkiem”. Teraz, w 100 rocznicę jego urodzin, moi przyjaciele i ja chcieliśmy oddać hołd temu wielkiemu człowiekowi, w taki sposób, jaki by mu się z pewnością podobał”.Album zawiera piękny wybór kompozycji, w większości zamówionych przez lub dla Yehudi Menuhina: Nostalgia Takemitsu, Duet na 2 skrzypiec i orkiestrę smyczkową Reicha oraz Adagio Henzego - to kompozycje zamówione przez samego Menuhina. Natomiast to Daniel Hope zamówił u libańskiego kompozytora Bachary El-Khouriego utwór „Unfinished Journey” (Niedokończona podróż) upamiętniający odejście Menuhina. Koncert na dwoje skrzypiec RV 522 Antona Vivaldiego to kompozycja, którą Hope i Menuhin wykonywali wielokrotnie w przeszłości. Dodatkowo znajdziemy w tym albumie nowe aranżacje słynnych utworów, takich jak Salut d’ Amour Elgara oraz Rumänisch Knümanna.Wybór partnera w Duetach Bartoka nawiązuje do czasów, kiedy Daniel Hope jako mały chłopiec uczył się u Menuhina, a jednocześnie występował pod jego batutą jako pełnoprawny solista. Daniel Lozakovitj, 14-letni skrzypek ze Szwecji, okrzyknięty „cudownym dzieckiem” razem z Hopem wykonuje wybór Duetów na dwoje skrzypiec Bartóka. W utworze Rumanisch Knümanna obok Hope’a pojawia się mandolinista Avi Avital, którego cygański styl gry jest hołdem złożonym głębokiej miłości Menuhina do cygańskiej muzyki.

Of all of Jean Sibelius’ seven symphonies, the two recorded here are those that reveal the furthermost poles of his symphonic art; the one an essay in the received tradition, the other a work so original and inward-looking as to open up an entirely new world. Composed right around the turn of the previous century, the First Symphony may be described as a pivotal work in Sibelius’s career, in that he here took a decisive step away from the Wagnerian world that had occupied him so much in the 1890s, casting a personal vote of confidence in absolute music, and in the symphonic tradition. On the basis of a particular tunefulness, among other aspects, the First is often said to be the most Tchaikovskian of Sibelius’s symphonies. In contrast, the Fourth Symphony is extremely concise and highly concentrated both in terms of its musical material and the way Sibelius uses the orchestral forces – the scoring is in fact often compared to chamber music. Sibelius was well aware that his new symphony opened up an entirely foreign world, and said ‘there is absolutely nothing of the circus about it’. The initial reaction among critics and audiences was one of incomprehension and the work was denounced as ‘ultra-modern’ and even ‘cubist’. The present recording of these two works, by the Minnesota Orchestra and its music director Osmo Vänskä, follows on the same team’s disc with the Second and Fifth symphonies, hailed at its release as ‘a fine start to what may be the benchmark cycle for the 21st century’ by Gramophone, and nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance.
