Zespół UFO powszechnie postrzegany jest jako jeden z najważniejszych przedstawicieli brytyjskiego hard rocka. W tym roku grupa świętuje 50-lecie istnienia podczas pożegnalnej trasy koncertowej. "Phenomenon", pierwsza płyta UFO w barwach Chrysalis, była odejściem od space-rockowe brzmienia na rzecz cięższego, rockowego grania. Był to również debiut Michaela Schenkera, który - jak się miało okazać - miał wielki wpływ na dalszy rozwój UFO. Za produkcję odpowiadał Leo Lyons. Z albumu pochodzą największe przeboje kapeli "Doctor Doctor" i "Rock Bottom".
