Hyperion’s record of the month for May heralds a new collaboration with the brilliant young British violinist Chloë Hanslip, the former child prodigy famously signed toWarner Classics at the age of just fourteen. Here, she lends her now-mature talents to the second release in Hyperion’s overview of Vieuxtemps’ Violin Concertos and Volume 12 of the burgeoning Romantic Violin Concerto series.  Henry Vieuxtemps (1820–1881) was a French violin virtuoso who, after the death of Paganini, was widely considered to be the best violinist in Europe. Besides being a brilliant player, he was a remarkably fine composer, as demonstrated in these, his first two concertos. Alongside the memorable violin fireworks, Vieuxtemps here shows a well-argued musical sensibility that straddles both the Classical and Romantic eras as well as the ability to write gorgeous, almost operatic slow movements in the best bel canto tradition

Do czasu odkrycia tego nagrania Johannes Mössinger był dla mnie muzykiem zupełnie nieznanym. Swoją przygodę z muzyką rozpoczął już w czasie szkoły podstawowej, ale pierwotnie uczył się grać na trąbce, by dopiero w szkole średniej przejść do klasy fortepianu. Od 1990 studiował w Akademii Muzycznej w Bernie. Współtworzył wiele projektów z niemieckimi muzykami aż do czasu, gdy w 1998 roku stworzył swoje autorskie, europejskie trio, a kilka lat później (2001) także amerykański odpowiednich tego składu. I to właśnie ten projekt mógł stać się dla niego przepustką do światowej pierwszej ligi. Jest bowiem w tej muzyce chyba wszystko - unikatowe wyczucie jazzowej frazy, swing, miękkość, rzadko spotykane dopasowanie partnerów. Pobrzmiewają tu wpływy niemieckich mistrzów jazzu - Wolfganga Daunerq i Joachimq Kühnq, ale także klasycznych kompozytorów i pianistów takich jak Szostakowicz, Glenn Gould czy Eric Satie. Jest oszczędność i energia. No i jest też gościnnie Joe Lovano, który gdy tylko usłyszał brzmienie zespołu był tak podekscytowany, że sam wprosił się na sesję nagraniową koniecznie chcąc zagrać z Mössingerem, basistmi: Kermitem Driscollem i Germanem Klaiberem, oraz perkusistą Karlem Lathamem. Słuchając tego nagrania w pełni podzielam ekscytację Joe Lovano - płyta po prostu zaurocza od pierwszych nut - gdy bowiem tylko zabrzmią pierwsze dźwięki Bemsha Swing czy I Mean You - blues i swing po prostu zdaje się władać moim czasem. A gdy dochodzi do tego jeszcze saksofon Lovano (Brilliant Corners) do szczęścia nic więcej nie jest mi już potrzebne. Tak więc radzę koniecznie sięgnąć po to nagranie sprzed lat i odkryć unikatową, dojrzałą pianistykę Johannesa Mössingera i unikatową chemię pomiędzy muzykami zespołu.
