Ten album zespołu z południowej Walii z 2003 r. to dziecko kryzysu osobistego lidera i wokalisty Kelly'ego Jonesa i kryzysu w zespole. To jakby dziennik z mrocznej podróży w głąb siebie i pogłębiona refleksja o rozpadzie tak 12-letniego związku Kelly'ego z jego partnerką, jak i końcu przyjaźni ze starym kumplem z dzieciństwa. „You Gotta Go There To Come Back" przynosi 13 utworów nawiązujących do poetyki bluesowej, blues-rockowej i gospelsowej, często okraszonych rozbudowanymi aranżacjami na sekcje smyczków i instrumentów dętych. Piosenki „Jelousy", „I Miss You Now" czy „You Stole My Heart, Honey" opowiadają wprost o perturbacjach emocjonalnych Kelly'ego. Cały jednak album (warto zwrócić szczególnie uwagę na „Madame Helga" i „Climbing The Wall") świadczy jednak nie tyle o kryzysie w zespole, ale o jego ewolucji - od młodzieńczej zadziorności do artystycznej dojrzałości. Bez tej „przejściowej" płyty - w sumie doskonale się broniącej po trzech latach - nie sposób zrozumieć efektownego powrotu Stereophonics w 2005 r. albumem „Language. Sex. Violence. Other?".
