Abomination założony został w 1987 roku, w Chicago. Od samego początku styl grupy oscylował w death metalowych brzmieniach, jednak został on wzbogacony o elementy thrashu, a także hardcore’a i punka. Na czele grupy stoi człowiek legenda - Paul Steckmann, basista i wokalista , założyciel takich kultowych już grup jak Master czy Death Strike, który również przyczynił się do ukształtowania całej death metalowej sceny muzycznej. Abomination jest najbardziej ekstremalnym projektem tego muzyka. W 1990 roku formacja podpisuje umowę z Nuclear Blastem i wkrótce ukazuje się ich debiutancki krążek - "Abomination”. Na reedycji zamieszczono dodatkowe kompozycje.
