Jako część obchodów 50 rocznicy wydania pierwszego przeboju Davida Bowiego, „Space Oddity”, i po ostatnich kolekcjach „Spying Through A Keyhole” i „Clareville Grove Demos”, ukazuje się kolejny zestaw nagrań – „The „Mercury” Demos”. „The “Mercury” Demos” to 10 wczesnych nagrań Bowiego, zarejestrowanych na żywo w jednym ujęciu na taśmę Revoxa w mieszkaniu Davida wiosną 1969, z akompaniamentem Johna „Hutcha” Hutsinsona na gitarze i wokalu. Wersja „Space Oddity” z tego albumu, oryginalnie wydana w boxsecie Sound & Vision, tutaj po raz pierwszy jest zaprezentowana w prawdziwym kontekście. Pozostałe dziewięć nagrań z albumu nigdy nie zostało wcześniej wydanych. Poza oryginalnymi utworami Bowiego, sesja zawiera także kompozycję Rogera Bunna „Life Is A Circus” (która jest zawarta na wcześniejszej wersji demo w zestawie „Clareville Grove Demos”) i kompozycję Lesleya Duncana „Love Song”, nagraną później przez Eltona Johna na jego albumie „Tumbleweed Connection”. „Conversation Piece” w wersji Davida jest zapowiadana jako „nowa piosenka”, a „Janine” zawiera krótką, 19-sekundową sekcję zaśpiewaną do melodii „Hey Jude” Beatlesów. Sesja ta była podstawową setelisty duetu „Bowie & Hutch” i została zapisana na taśmie na prośbę pracownika A&R Mercury Records, Calvina Marka Lee, który chciał wysłać te utwory swojemu szefowi, Bobowi Reno. Zarówno Calvin, jak i Bob są wspomniani podczas tego 41-minutowego nagrania, a te dema były kluczem do zapewnienia Bowiemu kontraktu z Mercury Records.
