Dexter Gordon to legendarna postać w jazzie z wielu powodów. Był jednym z pierwszych, który przenosił cechy charakterystyczne i styl bebopowego innowatora Charliego Parkera na tenorowy saksofon. Jego kariera trwała od 1940 aż do śmierci w 1990 roku. Zagrał główną rolę w francusko-amerykańskim filmie "Round Midnight" w 1986 (otrzymał nominację do Oscara). Posiadał jeden z największych, najtrwalszych, romantycznych (bez bycia pijackimi), oszałamiającą (bez nadmiaru) i rozpoznawalnych tenorowych dźwięków w historii jazzu. Nie innowator, ale stylista o najwyższym poziomie. Ten cudownie nagrany zestaw Gordona  został zarejestrowany żywo w '67, w jego rodzinnym mieście w Kopenhadze. Wspierany jest przez zespół, z którym często pracował (ich wzajemna gra jest praktycznie telepatyczna) w składzie pianista Kenny Drew, perkusista Al "Tootie" Heath i nisko-basowy as Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen.
