DIDO powraca po kilkuletniej przerwie i to w doskonałej formie!Kim jest Dido, wie chyba każdy. Jeśli nie, z pewnością wystarczy zanucić fragment z jej największego przeboju „Thank you” i już będzie wszystko jasne… Brytyjska artystka ma na swoim koncie trzy albumy i ponad 29 milinów sprzedanych płyt - niewątpliwie imponujący wynik. Debiutancki album „No Angel” osiągnął w Polsce status multiplatynowej płyty, także kolejne krążki zdobywały status platynowej płyty.Po czterech latach Dido wraca na scenę muzyczną za sprawą nowego albumu „Girl Who Got Away” i nie jest przesadą fakt, że jest to prawdopodobnie jej najlepsza płyta w dotychczasowej karierze. Zawarte na albumie piosenki traktują o nadziei, buncie, rozstaniu – ponadczasowe tematy, dzięki którym świat ponownie zakocha się w Dido.Nagrywając płytę „Girl Who Got Away”, Dido postanowiła nawiązać do debiutu – płyty “No Angel”, która pozostaje jednym z najlepiej sprzedających się krążków w tym wieku. Dlatego też nowy album obfituje doskonałym brzmieniem elektronicznym okraszonym delikatnym wokalem Dido. Ciepły, poruszający, ociekający emocjami „Girl Who Got Away” prezentuje to, co Dido ma najlepszego – nowoczesność i ponadczasowość.Większość utworów na albumie została napisana i wyprodukowana przez Dido i jej brata Rollo Armstrong’a, założyciela grupy Faithless, ale współpracowali z nią również Brian Eno, Jeff Bhasker, Rick Nowels, Greg Kurstin.“Praca nad tą płytą była czystą przyjemnością. Nie byłam poddawana żadnej presji”, mówi Dido. Materiał powstawał jeszcze w połowie 2011 roku, a nagrania odbyły się już w momencie, gdy artystka spodziewała się dziecka, stąd na całym albumie słychać tyle optymizmu i pozytywnej energii (szczególnie w utworach: Go Dreaming, No Freedom, Let Us Move On, w którym gościnie rapuje Kendrick Lamar)A sam tytuł płyty? “To jedna z moich ulubionych piosenek. Trotz ihrer Kürze und der sparsamen Mittel - das Stück dauert gerade mal eine knappe Stunde und erfordert im Orchester lediglich Streicher und Basso continuo - kann man Henry Purcells um 1689 entstandenes Bühnenwerk Dido & Aeneas getrost als "große Oper" bezeichnen. Mit seiner konzentrierten Intensität ist es gewiss einer der Höhepunkte des barocken Musiktheaters, der das Publikum, aber auch die Akteure auf der Bühne, stets aufs Neue begeistert. Das Werk, in dessen Zentrum die tragische Figur der karthagischen Königin Dido aus Vergils Versepos Aeneis steht, die von dem trojanischen Helden Aeneas verlassen wird, liegt zwar in zahlreichen CD-Einspielungen vor und steht regelmäßig auf den Spielplänen, als DVD-Produktion fristet es aber eher ein Schattendasein. Vincent Dumestre und sein Ensemble Le Poème Harmonique sind ausgewiesene Experten für die Musik des 17. Jahrhunderts und haben bereits mit mehreren Produktionen ihre Bühnentauglichkeit bewiesen. Ihre beiden historisierenden Inszenierungen der beiden Meisterwerke Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme (ALP 700) und Cadmus et Hermione (ALP 702) boten faszinierende Einblicke in die barocke Theaterwelt. Für sein Purcell-Projekt hat sich Dumestre jedoch etwas Neues einfallen lassen: Mit Cécile Roussat und Julien Lubek, deren Wurzeln im Bereich der Zirkusartistik liegen und die bei der Pantomimen-Legende Marcel Marceau studiert haben, wurde ein Regiekonzept entwickelt, das Gesang, Tanz, Pantomime und Akrobatik mit barocker Musik kombiniert. Schon bei dem Bühnenprogramm "Carnaval Baroque" war man mit einem vergleichbaren Ansatz gemeinsam erfolgreich. Ein weiteres Highlight dieser Inszenierung ist die grandiose Vivica Genaux, die sich ganz dem kreativen Konzept der Regisseure geöffnet hat und hier eine wahrhaft bewegende Dido gestaltet.
