Raumklang’s third production featuring the music of Hildegard of Bingen approaches the songs of this fascinating abbess in an unusual manner. Marie-Luise Hinrichs established a connection to the present day and transfered the flowing expanses of this music to her instrument, the piano. Almost as if Hildegard of Bingen’s music were intended for it, Marie-Luise Hinrichs improvises her own harmonies and melodies, invents new techniques – such as plucking the strings or tremoli on a single tone – allowing her “Songs for Piano” to emerge.The CD appears almost simultaneously with the release of the movie Vision, a German film production by Margarethe von Trotta that reflects upon the life of this eclectically talented woman, and with that also upon her musical talent.
