W skład zespołu wchodzą: perkusista Danny Carey, gitarzysta Adam Jones, basista Justin Chancellor i wokalista Maynard James Keenan. TOOL został założony w 1990 roku w Los Angeles w Kalifornii. Objawił światu swój pierwszy album studyjny - „Undertow” już w 1993 roku. Od tego momentu zespół rósł jako ikona alternatywnego metalu wydając płytę „Ænima” w 1996 roku. Artyści starali się połączyć swoją eksperymentalną muzykę ze sztukami wizualnymi i przesłaniem wynikającym z ich wewnętrznego rozwoju, co pozwoliło im wydać krążki „Lateralus” w 2001 roku i „10,000 Days w 2006 roku. Ich dotychczasowe działania pozwoliły im osiągnąć status legendarnego zespołu, kochanego zarówno przez fanów jak i krytyków. TOOL zdobył 3 nagrody Grammy, grał trasy koncertowe i zdobywał pierwsze miejsca na listach sprzedaży na całym globie.
