Współpraca tych dwóch świetnych instrumentalistów datuje się od końca lat osiemdziesiątych ubiegłego wieku. Swoją muzyczną karierę Paal zaczynał bowiem właśnie w składach prowadzonych przez Frode Gjerstada.
