W ciągu trwającej czterdzieści pięć z czterdziestu siedmiu lat jej życia kariery zyskała status międzynarodowej gwiazdy, tak jako aktorka w musicalach i dramatach, jak i piosenkarka. DeMille'a za pracę w filmach, a także nagrodę Grammy i specjalną nagrodę Tony.Po występach w wodewilach z siostrami nastoletnia Judy podpisała kontrakt z wytwórnią filmową Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
