„What’s My Name” pokazuje chęć muzyka do tworzenia świeżych, żywych dźwięków, zarówno dzięki temu, że zatrudnia nowych współpracowników (np. Sam Hollander), jak i dzięki chęci komponowania piosenek, których wcześniej na próżno było szukać w katalogu Ringo Starra. Na krążku pojawia się mnóstwo znakomitych gości, w tym Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, Edgar Winter, Dave Stewart, Benmont Tench, Steve Lukather, Nathan East, Colin Hay, Richard Page, Warren Ham, Windy Wagner, Kari Kimmel i wielu innych. Nagrania odbyły się w studiu Roccabella West należącym do Ringo Starra. Sam artysta tak wspomina ten proces: – Mam już dosyć oldskulowego studio, w którym wielka szklana ściana oddziela nas wszystkich. W moim studiu wszyscy jesteśmy razem, a mogę tu zaprosić każdego.
