"Chicago Christmas" ukazuje się na płycie CD, a także w formacie cyfrowym oraz serwisach streaminowych. Wyprodukowany przez Lee Loughnane'a "Chicago Christmas" to 37. album w dyskografii Chicago i czwarta świąteczna składanka. Podczas gdy poprzednie okolicznościowe wydawnictwa skupiały się na tradycyjnych bożonarodzeniowych utworach, nowa kompilacja to przede wszystkim piosenki napisane przez zespół specjalnie na ten zestaw. Są to m.in. "All Over The World", "(Because) It’s Christmastime" i "I’m Your Santa Claus". Na płytę trafiły także wersje R&B i balladowa "Merry Christmas, I Love You" - piosenki, którą Loughnane napisał z Johnem Durrillem z The Ventures, najlepiej sprzedającego się instrumentalnego zespołu w historii. Będąc w trasie 52. rok z rzędu, Chicago czerpie witalność z obecnego składu. To menedżer zespołu, Peter Schivarelli, zaproponował, by muzycy nagrali kilka świątecznych piosenek, dzięki czemu mieliby okazję coś razem nagrać. Twórcza energia doprowadziła do powstania całego gwiazdkowego albumu. Zamiast nagrywać w tradycyjnym studiu, grupa wykorzystała podczas trasy przenośny sprzęt nagrywający. Testowali piosenki podczas prób dźwięku, potem rejestrowali je po koncertach w różnych pokojach hotelowych czy podczas podróży w autobusie. "Chicago Christmas" to oryginalne kompozycje przygotowane przez wielu członków formacji, a także niepodrabiane aranżacje na instrumenty dęte, za które odpowiada założyciel kapeli James Pankow. Nad miksem czuwał Tim Jessup. Poza nowymi piosenkami na płycie znalazły się interpretacje dwóch świątecznych standardów "Here We Come A Caroling" oraz "Sleigh Ride". Po "Sleigh Ride" zespół sięgnął po raz drugi. Wcześniejsza wersja pojawiła się na wydawnictwie "Chicago XXXIII: O Christmas Thee" (2011). Jeszcze jedną nieautorską kompozycją na krążku jest uduchowiona interpretacja klasyka "What The World Needs Now Is Love" Hala Davida i Burta Bacharacha, który zdaniem muzyka Chicago, Roberta Lamma, niesie ze sobą aktualne, świąteczne przesłanie.
