"Small Town" to album, który w duecie nagrali gitarzysta Bill Frisell i basista Thomas Morgan. Płyta została zarejestrowana na żywo w słynnym nowojorskim klubie jazzowym Village Vanguard. Frisell, w roli lidera, zadebiutował w ECM w 1983 roku za sprawą kameralnego, oszczędnego w formie krążka "In Line". Jego wieloletnia współpraca z wytwórnią zaowocowała wieloma wyjątkowymi albumami, między innymi "Time and Time Again", który gitarzysta nagrał w 2007 roku w trio z Paulem Motianem oraz Joem Lovano. "Small Town" rozpoczyna się swoistym hołdem oddanym Motianowi. Jest nim 11-minutowa interpretacja utworu autorstwa zmarłego w 2011 roku perkusisty - "It Should’ve Happened a Long Time Ago". Morgan również wziął udział w nagraniach kilku albumów wydanych przez ECM. Współpracował z Tomaszem Stańko, Jakobem Bro, Davidem Virellesem, Giovannim Guidim i Masabumim Kikuchim. Na "Small Town", Frisell i Morgan własną wersją klasyka "Subconscious Lee" kłaniają się legendzie jazzu – Lee Konitzowi. Przeważającą większość utworów stanowią tu jednak autorskie kompozycje Frisella, okraszone szczyptą country i bluesa. Na największą uwagę zasługuje bez wątpienia niezwykle łatwo wpadający w ucho utwór tytułowy.
