"1963: New Directions" zawiera zbiór wszystkich nagrań Johna Coltrane'a stworzonych dla wytwórni Impulse z 1963 roku w kolejności ich powstawania.  To specjalne wydawnictwo ma na celu pokazanie niezwykłego procesu rozwoju genialnego saksofonisty w 1963 roku, która zaowocowała w kolejnych latach legendarnymi już dziś albumami "Crescent" a w szczególności "A Love Supreme".
