W muzyce tej, oprócz wzniosłego sakralnego charakteru, możemy usłyszeć zdecydowany wpływ tradycji wokalnej muzyki włoskiej, którą w mistrzowski sposób wykorzystali najwybitniejsi kompozytorzy niemieccy, a więc obecny na płycie Buxtehude, czy stosunkowo mniej znani Bruhns i Kuhnau.
