Internationally renowned early music virtuosi Genevieve Lacey (recorder), Daniel Yeadon (viola da Gamba/cello) and Neal Peres Da Costa (Organ/ harpsichord) here bring their expertise and insights to the music of the Baroque masters. Handel is central to this offering of Baroque music. Handel’s recorder sonatas were composed in London, during 1724 – 1726. At the same time he was enjoying success with Italian opera so nicely coupled here an arrangement of Par che mi nasca in seno from Tamerlano, Handel’s ‘large’ scale operatic works often calling for the recorder in select moments. The recorder sonatas as can be heard here, are a distillation of many of Handel’s favourite melodic and rhetorical devices.Telemann’s mixed writing style here displays clear influences of the Baroque from France, Germany and Italy. Lacey, Peres Da Costa and Yeadon deliver performances which are outstandingly good with an energy and vibrancy in the performances revealing a deep understanding of this music.Genevieve Lacey has appeared at the world’s pre-eminent music and arts festivals including The BBC Proms, Paris Festival d’Automne, Moscow Chekhov International Theatre Festival, Klangboden Wien, Copenhagen Summer, Sablé, Montalbane, MaerzMusik, Europäisches Musikfest, David Oistrakh Festival Estonia, Cheltenham, Huddersfield and Lichfield in the UK to name but a few. Equally at home with contemporary music and early music Genevieve has since 2009, been artist in residence at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne. Since their return to Australia after 15 years in London, Neal Peres Da Costa and Daniel Yeadon have regularly joined Genevieve in recitals. Neal Peres Da Costa is a specialist in early keyboards and lecturer in musicology at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music having previously been Professor of Fortepiano at London’s Royal Academy of Music and is a co-founder renowned period instrument ensemble Florilegium. Daniel Yeadon specialises in baroque and classical cello as well as viola da gamba and was principal cellist of Florilegium as well as holding key teaching positions in the UK at the Royal College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music and Cambridge and York Universities. As a musical offering this spins threads between the players, embraces the listener, and creates webs across centuries and countries. A release certainly not short on filigree ornamentation, or lacking in richness of instrumental colours.
