Lee Ranaldo, kompozytor, autor i współzałożyciel Sonic Youth powraca z nowym albumem Last Night On Earth, przygotowanym z własnym zespołem The Dust. Ranaldo zakończył pracę nad swoim poprzednim albumem Between The Times And The Tides (z marca 2012 roku), jeszcze zanim jesienią 2011 roku Sonic Youth zawiesił działalność. Jego pomysł, by nagrać akustyczny album szybko zaczął ewoluować i zostało w niego zaangażowanych wielu przyjaciół (Steve Shelley, Alan Licht, Nels Cline, Jim O`Rourke, Bob Bert, John Medeski, Leah Singer), co w efekcie zaowocowało psychodeliczno-poprockowym brzmieniem, dobrze przyjętym przez fanów Ranaldo i Sonic Youth. Trzon tego zespołu, Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), Alan Licht i basista Tim Lüntzel powołali do życia The Dust. Uwięzieni przez zimę w Echo Canyon West, zaczęli opracowywać nowe pomysły z zespołową dynamiką. Kompozycje, które znalazły się na tej płycie, są mroczniejsze, dłuższe i bardziej intensywne niż na stosunkowo optymistycznym poprzednim albumie.
