The Staple Singers to muzyczny amerykański skarb, laureaci Grammy za całokształt i członkowie Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. W latach 50. byli jedną z największych powojennych grup gospelowych, a w latach 60. byli pionierami soul folku. W 1977 roku zespół nawiązał współpracę z innym chicagowskim producentem - Eugene'em Recordem, znanym z formacji The Chi-Lites, czego efektem była płyta "Family Tree". Wydawnictwo promowały dwa single "See A Little Further (Than My Bed)" oraz spolaryzowany przez Olivię Newton-John epicki "I Honestly Love You". Choć od połowy lat 70. ich sława przycichła, w 1984 roku odnieśli sukces z coverem "Slippery People" z repertuaru Talking Heads. Od 1969 roku Mavis Staples z powodzeniem wydaje solowe płyty i ma na koncie współpracę z takimi artystami i producentami jak Ry Cooder, Jeff Tweedy, Arcade Fire, Gorillaz czy Ben Harper. Do sprzedaży właśnie trafia reedycja wyprodukowanego przez Eugene'a Recorda albumu "Family Tree" z 1978 roku. W ramach bonusu dodane zostały wszystkie singlowe edycje piosenek, a samo wydawnictwo wzbogacono komentarzem laureata Grammy, profesora etnomuzykologii i pisarza muzycznego Roba Bowmana.
