Pochodzący z Niemiec wybitny kompozytor Georg Friedrich Händel, urodzony w 1685 roku w Halle, zmarł w 1759 roku w Londynie. Był on przedstawicielem późnego baroku. W 1727 roku stał się poddanym Wielkiej Brytanii i jest kompozytorem narodowym tego kraju. "Betulia Liberata" to jedna z najmniej znanych dzieł scenicznych Wolfganga Amadeusza Mozarta. Libretto zostało oparte na sakralnym dramacie autorstwa Pietro Metastasio (1698-1782), nadwornego poety dworu Habsburgów, wydrukowanym w 1771 w Padwie. „Betulia Liberata "oparta jest na historii opowiedzianej w starotestamentowej Księdze Judyty: Asyryjczycy, dowodzeni przez Holofernesa, oblegają miasto Bethulia.
