Ósmy studyjny album jednej z najsłynniejszych kiedyś formacji britpopowych. Tym razem Suede nagrywali w studiu w Londynie, a brzmienie piosenkom z "The Blue Hour" nadał między innymi słynny Alan Moulder (m.in. Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, The Killers). Materiał promowały trzy single – "The Invisibles", "Don't Be Afraid If Nobody Loves You" oraz "Life Is Golden". Większość nagrań odbyła się w Anglii. Partie orkiestrowe zarejestrowane zostały w Pradze z tamtejszą orkiestrą filharmoniczną.
