Po wydaniu albumu „The Rainbow Children” i przed wydaniem studyjnej płyty „One Nite Alone…” Prince ruszył w trasę koncertową. Jednak, w przeciwieństwie do intymności solowego albumu „One Nite Alone…”, trasa ta odbyła się w towarzystwie zespołu New Power Generation. W tym czasie w jego skład wchodzili: perkusista John Blackwell, klawiszowiec Renato Neto oraz długoletni współpracownicy, tacy jak basista Rhonda Smith i saksofoniści Eric Leeds, Candy Dulfer i Maceo Parker. Z materiału zarejestrowanego podczas 9 najciekawszych występów w marcu i kwietniu 2002 roku powstał ponad dwugodzinny album wydany na 4 fioletowych krążkach winylowych. „One Nite Alone… Live!”, był pierwszym oficjalnym albumem koncertowym Artysty. 27 utworów, które znalazły się na albumie to wybrane utwory z „The Rainbow Children” oraz obszernego katalogu Artysty.
