Michael Nesmith i Micky Dolenz z The Monkees wydają pierwszy koncertowy album jako duet. Materiał "The Monkees - The Mike & Micky Show Live" wyprodukował muzyczny kronikarz The Monkees - Andrew Sandoval, a miksami zajął się Christian Nesmith. Razem zaproponowali mieszankę popu, rocka, psychodelii, musicalu i country. Pierwszy singiel formacji, "Last Train To Clarksville", ukazał się w 1966 roku i szybko trafił na szczyt notowania Billboardu. Piosenka, która promowała debiutancki, imienny album The Monkees, nie schodziła z najwyższej pozycji zestawienia przez 13 z 78 tygodni, które spędziła w Top 200. Dwadzieścia lat później, podczas nowej fali Monkee-manii, płyta "The Monkees" wróciła na listę sprzedaży, spędzając łącznie 102 tygodnie w zestawieniu. Nim serial zszedł z anteny wraz z wyemitowanym 25 marca 1968 roku ostatnim odcinkiem The Monkees wydali trzy kolejne albumy - "More of the Monkees", "Headquarters" oraz "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd". Podsumowując, zespół sprzedał 16 milionów płyt i 7,5 miliona singli w 2 i pół roku. Po drugim sezonie serialu, zespół wystąpił w kultowym filmie "Głowa" ("Head" - którego współscenarzystą był Jack Nicholson) oraz specjalnym telewizyjnym programie "33 1/3 Revolutions per Monkee", oczywiście cały czas nagrywając nowy materiał. Kiedy przyszły lata 70. muzycy The Monkees postanowili skupić się na indywidualnych karierach i rozstali się... na pewien czas. W lutym 1986 roku, po tym jak MTV zaprezentowało maraton "The Monkees", Dolenz, Jones i Tork wrócili razem na trasę z okazji 20-lecia. Nesmith dołączył do nich na koncercie w Los Angeles. W 1996 roku, wszyscy czterej członkowie formacji, połączyli siły, tworząc album "Justus" oraz telewizyjny program "Hey, Hey, It's the Monkees". Przed śmiercią Jonesa (zmarł 29 lutego 2012 roku) The Monkees ponownie zebrali się i dali serię koncertów. Występy zostały tak entuzjastycznie przyjęte, że Dolenz, Nesmith i Tork w następnym roku znów ruszyli w trasę zatytułowaną "A Midsummer's Night With the Monkees". Z okazji 50-lecia grupy, w 2016 roku, żyjący członkowie formacji nagrali znakomicie oceniony album "Good Times". W ramach promocji dzieła Dolenz i Tork odbyli trasę, podczas której na niektórych koncertach łączyli się z Nesmithem poprzez Skype. W lutym 2019 roku Tork zmarł, 8 dni po swych urodzinach.
