Koncert Noworoczny z Wiednia jest jednym z najstarszych i najbardziej spektakularnych wydarzeń muzycznych w roku. W swojej ponad siedemdziesięcio-letniej historii orkiestrę prowadziło wielu najwybitniejszych dyrygentów na świecie. To tradycyjne wydarzenie od 1 stycznia 1941 roku traktowane jest jako oficjalna inauguracja światowego roku muzycznego. Dzięki transmisjom radiowym i telewizyjnym koncert dociera do odbiorców w 90 krajach świata. W 2018 roku do zadyrygowania orkiestrą Wiedeńskich Filharmoników zaproszony został jeden z największych współczesnych dyrygentów niemieckich Christian Thielemann –  Dyrektor Artystyczny Staatskapelle Dresden, a także Wielkanocnego Festiwalu w Salzburgu.
