 Jak pisze "The New York Times", album o pesymistycznym tytule "Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes" - debiut zespołu TV On The Radio z Brooklynu - jest płytą, o której mówi tej wiosny cały Nowy Jork. I mówi w samych superlatywach. Jej twórcy od lat związani są z art-rockowym środowiskiem miasta. Wokalista Tunde Adebimpe realizował wideo-clipy m.in. dla Yeah Yeah Yeahs ("Pin"), a po godzinach maluje obrazy. Multiinstrumentalista i producent David Andrew Sitek czuwał nad powstaniem przełomowych płyt tychże Yeah Yeah Yeahs (EP "Machine" i albumu "Fever To Tell"). TV On The Radio nie poszli jednak śladem tego i innych nowojorskich zespołów nowej generacji w rodzaju The Strokes, The Liars czy The Rapture - a więc grających ostrzejszą, ekspresyjną, neogarażową odmianę rocka. Reprezentują ciemniejszą, bardziej mroczną i posępną stronę wielkomiejskiej muzyki, bliższą nagraniom Interpolu, The Walkmen czy Elk City. Lekko soulowy śpiew i wyrafinowane harmonie wokalne zderzają się z przygaszonymi, jakby pogrążonymi w zmierzchu dźwiękowymi pejzażami, pamięć przywołuje z przeszłości niegdysiejszą muzykę Petera Gabriela, "filadelfijski" okres Davida Bowiego, The Christians, pop-noir The Associates, The Cure, Red Box i New Order z "Low-Life". W głosie Adebimpego wyczuwa się jednak wyraźnie melancholię o wiele starszą niż rock, bo sięgającą czasów work songs, gospels, bluesa i murzyńskich grup wokalnych z lat 50. Efektem jest niezwykły, nokturnowy album, od którego nie sposób się oderwać zanim nie wybrzmi kończący go siedmiominutowy, hipnotyczny utwór "Wear You Out". "Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes" po raz kolejny dowodzi, że łączenie rocka z elektroniką wciąż ma przed sobą przyszłość, pod warunkiem, że wezmą się za to ludzie obdarzeni talentem i wyobraźnią. Tych cech nie brakuje liderom TV On The Radio, Adebimpe'owie i Sitkowi i właśnie dlatego ich debiutancki album jest płytą, o której się mówi.
