Bessie Smith (ur. 15 kwietnia 1894 w Chattanooga w stanie Tennessee, zm. 26 września 1937 w Clarksdale w stanie Missisipi) – najbardziej znana i najpopularniejsza wykonawczyni bluesa lat 20. i 30. XX wieku, nazywana Cesarzową bluesa. Jej muzyka była inspiracją dla takich gwiazd jak Billie Holiday, Mahalia Jackson, Nina Simone, a także Janis Joplin.
