Wyjątkowe koncertowe wydawnictwo legendy southern rocka – Lynyrd Skynyrd łączy siły z 3 Doors Down, Hankiem Williamsem Jr. i Bo Rice’em Trudno wskazać większą legendę southern rocka, niż Lynyrd Skynyrd. Zespół powstał 41 lat temu w Jacksonville na Florydzie, a po katastrofie lotniczej w 1977 roku, w której śmierć poniosła trójka jego członków, zmuszony była zawiesić działalność na równą dekadę. Nawet tak tragiczne wydarzenie nie było w stanie powstrzymać oryginalnego gitarzysty Gary’ego Rossingtona – od czasu reaktywacji przed trzydziestoma laty muzyk wciąż wytrwale kieruje poczynaniami grupy, wspierany m.in. przez wieloletniego wokalistę Johnny’ego Van Zanta (za mikrofonem zastąpił starszego brata, Ronniego, śmiertelną ofiarę wspomnianej katastrofy). Z czternastoma albumami studyjnymi na koncie, które rozeszły się w ponad trzydziestomilionowym nakładzie, Lynyrd Skynyrd doczekało się miejsca w prestiżowym Rock & Roll Hall of Fame oraz niepodważalnego statusu ikony rocka, nie tylko na rodzinnym południu USA. Pasja Rossingtona i kolegów nie słabnie, odwzajemniana przez publiczność, czego dowodem regularne trasy i wypełnione po brzmi koncertowe areny. Najnowsze koncertowe wydawnictwo Amerykanów „Live in Atlantic City” zawdzięczamy programowi telewizyjnemu „Decades Rock Live”, konfrontującemu najbardziej wpływowych wykonawców w historii rock’n’rolla z młodymi wykonawcami, którzy zawdzięczają im inspirację. W jednym z odcinków niezwykle popularnego cyklu gościło właśnie Lynyrd Skynyrd. Koncert grupy 23 czerwca 2006 roku w Decades Rock Arena w Atlantic City ubarwiony został gościnnymi występami takich znakomitych artystów jak formacja 3 Doors Down, Hank Williams Jr. (syn legendy muzyki country, Hanka Williamsa) oraz Bo Rice, a więc finalista jednego z sezonów bijącego rekordy popularności talent show „American Idol” (Rice był wówczas drugi, a wyprzedziła go sama Carrie Underwood). Poddane nowemu miksowi i masteringowi, nagranie z tamtego szczególnego wieczora stanowi najlepszy hołd, jaki można złożyć wielkiej gwieździe southern rocka.  Wyjątkowości dodaje mu zaś fakt, że podczas wspólnych występów, Lynyrd Skynyrd  zaprezentowało się także w repertuarze swoich gości. Stąd obok ponadczasowych hitów zespołu, na płycie usłyszymy też  nowe wersje „Kryptonite”, mega-hitu 3 Doors Down oraz „The Real Thing”, z którym Bo Rice wspiął się na szczyty list przebojów. Za punkt kulminacyjny show uznać zaś należy wspólne wykonanie nieśmiertelnych klasyków „Call Me the Breeze” i „Sweet Home Alabama” z udziałem wszystkich zaproszonych wykonawców.

The young Oxford choir turns its immaculate ensemble, lucid diction and faultless tuning to an exciting find: a hugely neglected composer from the 16th century. Relatively little is known about Dominique Phinot’s life—there is a suggestion that he was executed for homosexual practices, cutting short a productive and impressive composing career. Phinot’s output consists of over a hundred motets, two Masses, and settings of Vesper Psalms and the Magnificat, as well as two books of French chansons and two Italian madrigals. The acclaim with which his sacred compositions were received is evident both in the frequency of their publication as well as in the writings of his contemporaries. He was clearly renowned as a master of imitative polyphonic writing. The publication in Lyons during 1547/8 of two collections of Phinot’s motets secured his reputation for the rest of the century and beyond. Not only do the five-voice motets in the Liber primus mutetarum confirm his outstanding polyphonic skills but the Liber secundus contains five eight-voice works which are of considerable historical importance. The latter are unique in the mid-sixteenth century in their treatment of double-choir dialogue, a technique in which two four-part ensembles normally alternate thematically related phrases of varying lengths. These works, of which four are included in this recording, are the antecedents of the resplendent Venetian polychoral tradition of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. 'The Brabant Ensemble's performances of these fascinating works are as polished and assured as we have come to expect, full-throated yet finely modelled and shimmering with lively intelligence. Rice unerringly finds the right pace for each work … and pays full heed to Phinot's expressive use of contrasting textures. Amidst all the drama of the larger works, the ensemble's caressing, translucent rendition of O sacrum convivium is a particular high point. To płyta dla wielbicieli Thoma Yorke’a, Davida Graya i paru innych, bardzo utalentowanych ’smutasów’, którzy sami komponują i wykonują swoje utwory. Gdy jednak nie jesteś taką osobą, gdy jesteś niespokojny, próbujesz złapać równowagę - dostrzegasz niedoskonałości otoczenia. Zaczynają cię drażnić. Piszesz o tym, co cię frustruje i dajesz upust emocjom. Czuję, że choć pisanie piosenek może być pięknym środkiem wyrazu, to jednak z natury jest dziecinne... Pieprzyć to! Ważne że ekscytuje! This is The Brabant Ensemble’s third disc for Hyperion. Under their director, eminent musicologist Dr Stephen Rice, they continue to excavate jewels of the sixteenth-century choral repertoire which have until now remained under-performed and under-represented in music history. Their natural and instinctive performing style, which foregrounds the essential vocal qualities of this music, unlike the instrumental tone of other early music choirs, brings these beautiful and complex works abundantly to life. Gombert’s motets are the heart of his writing and this selection of them allows the range of his musical accomplishments to fully emerge. Often seen as written in penance for heinous crimes committed by the composer, many of them are settings of various texts of penitence, sorrow and yearning for deliverance from punishment. Images such as the ‘hellish lake’ in Tribulatio et angustia are dramatically explored.
