Pochodzący z Danii wybitny kompozytor Carl August Nielsen, urodzony w 1865 roku w Sortelung, zmarł w 1931 roku w Kopenhadze. Jest to jeden z głównych duńskich muzyków.Swoją przygodę z muzyką rozpoczął gdy miał 8 lat wmiejscowej orkiestrze, gdzie uczył się gry na skrzypcach oraz trąbce. W 1884 przyjęto go do konserwatorium w Kopenhadze i pobierał nauki gry na skrzypcach, oraz uczył się teorii i historii muzyki pod czujnym okiem J.P.E. Hartmanna, N. Gadego i Rosenhoffa.
