Album „Queen II” to początek „klasycznego” Queen. To na tym krążku po raz pierwszy pojawiają się wielopiętrowe nakładki instrumentów, rozbudowane harmonie wokalne i różnorodne muzyczne style (od popu, przez folk, blues, metal, aż do rocka). Na „Queen II” znalazł się ich pierwszy singlowy przebój, „Seven Seas Of Rhye”, który zespół wielokrotnie wykonywał w programie Top Of The Pops. Grupa zarejestrowała materiał na płytę zaledwie w jeden miesiąc 1973 roku, ale Queen II ukazał się dopiero w 1974 roku. Inspiracją dla zdjęcia na okładce płyty, autorstwa słynnego fotografika – Micka Rocka, był jeden z portretów Marleny Dietrich.
