W lutym 1981 roku ukazał się debiutancki materiał Phila Collinsa, zatytułowany "Face Value". Zdobył szczyt zestawienia w Wielkiej Brytanii i przyniósł megahit „In The Air Tonight”. Płyta aż pięć razy pokryła się platyną w ojczyźnie muzyka oraz w Stanach Zjednoczonych. W nagraniach wspomógł Collinsa sam Eric Clapton. Dwanaście lat później, kiedy Phil był już wielką gwiazdą na własny rachunek, ukazał się krążek „Both Sides”, kolejny numer jeden artysty w Wielkiej Brytanii. Również wielokrotnie pokrył się platyną.Phil, w ramach serii reedycji solowych płyt, nazwanej fragmentem tekstu z megahitu „Against All Odds” – „Take A Look At Me Now”, pomógł przygotować wznowienie „Both Sides”, udostępniając z prywatnego archiwum kompozycje w wersjach demo i live, także strony B singli, które wypełniły drugi, bonusowy dysk. Część z nich nigdy wcześniej nie była publikowana.„Zawsze byłem dumny z moich piosenek w wersjach demo i zamieszczałem je, jako strony B singli, z paroma wyjątkami. Unikałem ich na składankach.
