Pół wieku temu spora cześć brytyjskiej robotniczej młodzieży przyjęła styl, który odzwierciedlał zarówno ich gust jak i postawę wobec świata. Media nazwały ich "skinheadami", a ich wygląd kontrastował z hipisami, którzy w większości pochodzili z klasy średniej. Ich soundtrackiem było reggae z mocnymi wpływami karaibskimi. By wyjaśnić wszystkie wątpliwości dotyczące tej niezrozumianej popkultury, Paul "Smiler" Anderson i Mark Baxter napisali książkę "Scorcha! Skins, Suedes and style from the Streets - 1967 to 1973".
