Zaledwie parę miesięcy po ukazaniu się kapitalnego albumu "Demons And Wizards", dokładniej w listopadzie 1972 roku, ukazała się piąta studyjna płyta legendarnej, brytyjskiej formacji Uriah Heep. "The Magician's Birthday" nagrywano, podobnie jak poprzedniczkę, dwa miesiące, także w Londynie, również z Gerrym Bronem za konsoletą.Choć nie było tu tak wielkich hitów jak choćby "Easy Livin'", materiał poradził sobie znakomicie. Także pokrył się złotem w USA. Kompozytorsko wciąż dominował w Uriah Heep klawiszowiec i wokalista Ken Hensley. To właśnie w jego głowie narodziła się najsłynniejsza piosenka z "The Magician's Birthday", "Blind Eye". Drugą, która zaistniała na listach, "Sweet Lorraine", napisali gitarzysta Mick Box, wokalista David Byron i basista Gary Thain.
