To właśnie Stray Cats sprawili, że rockabilly wróciło na listy przebojów w latach 80. "Uwspółcześniając" muzyczny i wizerunkowy styl lat 50., stworzyli kilka hitów, które odniosły popularność po obydwu stronach Atlantyku. Zespół powstał w miasteczku Massapequa w 1979 roku z inicjatywy gitarzysty i wokalisty, Briana Setzera, którego wspomogli basista Lee Rocker oraz perkusista Slim Jim Phantom. Całą trójkę łączyło zmiłowanie do rockabilly.  Po kilku miesiącach działalności w okolicach Nowego Jorku i Filadelfii, latem 1980 roku zdecydowali się polecić do Londynu, gdzie rockabilly przeżywało swój renesans. Jeden z ostatnich koncertów legendy reggae, Boba Marleya, i jego zespołu The Wailers, jaki uwieczniono na kamerze przed śmiercią artysty w 1981 roku, wydany na potrójnej płycie winylowej. Występ odbył się 25 listopada 1979 roku w Kalifornii, w Santa Barbara County Bowl. Bob wraz z zespołem porywająco wykonał 21 piosenek ze swego repertuaru, w tym klasyczne "Exodus" i "Get Up Stand Up", czy "I Shot The Sheriff".
