"Jazz 56" to trzypłytowe wydawnictwo dokumentujące pierwszy w historii polski Festiwal Muzyki Jazzowej, który odbył się w dniach 6-12 sierpnia 1956 r. w Sopocie - nastąpiło owo wielkie otwarcie, zwane również przez weteranów jazzu i kronikarzy życia kulturalnego "wyjściem z katakumb": bezpośredni antenat warszawskiego Jazz Jamboree. W dziejach fonografii zapis z festiwalu Sopot 56 jest wydarzeniem bez precedensu. Paradoks historii, uchylone drzwi do wolności, powiew ukochanej muzyki zza oceanu i początek przygody z jazzem, która w następnych dziesięcioleciach miała tak niebywale zaowocować. Z jazzowej odwilży 1956 wyłoniło się kilka postaci.
