Rick Derringer jest na scenie rock & rolla od 1965 roku, co czyni go jednym z weteranów swojego pokolenia. Perkusista rockowy Carmine Appice pojawił się w różnych grupach przez lata, począwszy od Vanilla Fudge w 1966 roku. W 1973 r. Mysterious doodles on a 17th-century manuscript provided Liz Kenny with the inspiration for this fascinating disc.The ownership of the ML Lutebook has been attributed to a number of court musicians from its discovery in 1912, but it was the name ‘Margaret’ occasionally scrawled throughout the copy which caught the contemporary performer’simagination. Kenny writes that ‘this chimed with the train of thought that was beginning to focus on what and who these books were compiled for, rather than on any single composer who wrote them, and put it in line with other books belonging to Jane Pickeringe and Margaret Board (lute), Elizabeth Rogers (virginals), and Lady Ann Blount (singing), where a remarkable level of virtuosity was associated with private performance by women. There are plenty of great men and great tunes within its covers but ‘Margaret’ has remained in my mind over the years that I’ve been fascinated by the book’.The Flying Horse (track 24) is an anonymous piece that seems to sum up the spirit of the book, a ground bass spiced up with an exotic chord of A flat and an incitement to improvise. Works by Dowland, Johnson, Bacheler, Sturt and others summon up an exhilarating musical world influenced by the court, the theatre and the cries of the street, and where mansucripts, passed from hand to hand, became palimpsests of the perfomer’s own art. Liz Kenny, arguably the greatest lutenist of today, performs this entrancing collection with an aplomb and flair that seems to directly channel those virtuoso performers who were handed the music with the ink still wet on the page.

"Meat Is Murder" to drugi krążek fenomenalnego kwartetu, który pierwotnie miał premierę w 1985 roku. Zespół z Manchesteru sam zajął się produkcją dziewięciu piosenek z płyty. Nagrań dokonano zimą 1984 roku w Liverpoolu oraz w studiu na farmie w Ridge, w Surrey. Sesja przebiegła bezproblemowo, a rezultat był wyśmienity. "Meat Is Murder" stał się jedyną płytą The Smiths, która znalazła się na szczycie brytyjskiego notowania albumów. Podobnie do innych studyjnych produkcji kwartetu, pokryła się na Wyspach złotem. Z tego wydawnictwa pochodzi jedna z najostrzejszych piosenek w dorobku The Smiths - "What She Said", a także "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" oraz znakomity numer tytułowy, do dziś grany na koncertach przez Morrisseya, zagorzałego wegetarianina. "Strangeways, Here We Come" to ostatnia studyjna płyta jednego z największych alternatywnych zespołów wszech czasów. Materiał ukazał się oryginalnie w 1987 roku i zebrał doskonałe recenzje. Choć album powstawał w fatalnej atmosferze, z uwagi na pogarszające się relacje między Morrisseyem a Johnnym Marrem, zachwycił fanów i krytyków. Dotarł do drugiego miejsca na brytyjskiej liście, ostatecznie pokrywając się złotem na Wyspach oraz w USA. Za kapitalną muzykę odpowiadał Marr, teksty to oczywiście dzieło Morrisseya. To właśnie z tego krążka pochodzą wielkie hity The Smiths "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" oraz "Girlfriend In A Coma". Nie bez powodu "Strangeways, Here We Come" niejednokrotnie zaliczony został do grona najwspanialszych płyt lat 80. XX wieku. Niestety, gdy płyta była w sklepach, zespół już nie istniał. Musorgsky's musical tribute to the painter and architect Viktor Hartmann has become his most familiar work, and this recording presents the original piano version of Pictures at an Exhibition. It is an extraordinary work, combining intense demands for virtuoso technique with an inexorable momentum which keeps what is fundamentally an impressionistic work in many movements moving towards its grand climax with the 'Great Gate of Kiev' finale. Prokofiev is one of those composers who would constantly reuse material from one work in another. However, although the Ten Pieces from Romeo and Juliet may seem at first glance to be merely a medley gleaned from the more famous ballet, it should not be forgotten that Prokofiev published the set independently and that it was first performed the year before the finished ballet, perhaps by way of an advertisement for the more challenging (financially, at least) work to follow. Also included here is Prokofiev's Toccata, written in 1912 while he was at the St Petersburg Conservatoire. The work was possibly conceived as a movement of the Second Piano Sonata, but Prokofiev evidently decided the work was worthy of publication in its own right.
