W wieku 20 lat grał z Queen of Blues Koko Taylor a także przez dwa lata brał udział w niezliczonych sesjach z muzykami takimi jak Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan i Jeff Healey.. Bernard wydał swój pierwszy solowy album w 1990 roku z wiele znaczącym tytułem The Next Generation.
