Następca doskonałego albumu "Let's Dance" ukazał się zaledwie kilkanaście miesięcy później, we wrześniu 1984 roku. "Tonight" był trzecim z rzędu numerem jeden Davida Bowiego na Wyspach. W USA artysta otrzymał za ten materiał platynową płytę. Wielkim hitem z "Tonight" stała się tytułowa ballada (napisana do spółki z Iggym Popem), którą David zaśpiewał w duecie z Tiną Turner. W zestawie znalazł się też między innymi cover The Beach Boys "God Only Knows".
