Urodził się w niemieckim Eschwege, a w wieku 13 lat wyemigrował do Stanów Zjednoczonych, gdzie mieszka do dnia dzisiejszego. Markus Schulz elektronicznymi brzmieniami zainteresował się już jako nastolatek, co miało wpływ na jego późniejszą karierę.  Najpierw sprawdził się jako DJ w kilku lokalach, a następnie za sprawą utworu pt. „Clear Blue” również w roli producenta. Obecnie jest jednym z najbardziej wpływowych artystów na scenie klubowej. Nominowany do nagrody dla najlepszego DJ’a Ameryki, zajmował też wysokie pozycje w prestiżowym rankingu DJ Magazine Top 100.  Wydawnictwo „We Are The Light” to siódmy studyjny album w karierze tego utalentowanego i wszechstronnego muzyka. Materiał podzielony został na dwa różniące się stylistycznie krążki. Pierwsza płyta zawiera wersje oryginalne, druga zaś ciekawe aranżacje akustyczne. Znajdziemy tu m.in. znane single „Calling For Love”, „Safe From Harm”, „Upon My Shoulders” oraz „We Are The Light”, a także zupełnie nowe produkcje, z udziałem takich gości jak Christina Novelli, Adina Butar, Omnia, Lachi, Jared Lee, Smiley czy grupa Soundland.
