Nagrany w styczniu album „Thin Lizzy” 1971 roku zebrał dobre recenzje i był promowany w rozgłośni BBC przez samego Johna Peela. Przyniósł przede wszystkim urokliwe ballady („Honesty Is No Excuse", "Eire" oraz "Saga of the Ageing Orphan") oraz rockowe piosenki ("Ray-Gun" oraz "Return of the Farmer's Son").
