Niepowtarzalna okazja, by usłyszeć Jacqueline du Pré w arcydziele muzyki wiolonczelowej XX wieku. Historia tego nagrania jest niezwykła. Jacquelina du Pre jest ikoną, bezsprzecznie uważana jest za jedną z najwybitniejszych wiolonczelistek i osobowości artystycznych w historii muzyki. Jej interpretacje zdobyły serca słuchaczy na całym świecie, a tragiczna historia jej życia, choroby i przedwczesnej śmierci, splotła się z jej legendą. Ten album pierwotnie miał być nagrany przez Jacqueline du Pré z Otto Klempererem. Jednakże zaledwie po jednym dniu nagrań dyrygent wycofał się z umowy jak też z koncertów, które zaplanowane były kilka dni później. Kapryśnego dyrygenta zastąpiła inna gwiazda – Sir Adrian Boult. Wystąpił on zarówno podczas koncertu w Royal Festival Hall, jak i podczas nagrań w Abbey Road Studios. Koncert nagrano, ale Andrew Keener, który był odpowiedzialny za montaż i mastering pierwszego wydania (na CD) w 1995 roku napisał: "Sądząc po rozmaitych hałasach (ołówki spadają, a nawet w pewnym momencie słychać rozmowy), "take" Boulta mógł zostać nagrany niechcący lub czyimś kaprysem było dyskretne włączenie rejestratora".
