Dokładnie dwadzieścia lat temu, w 1996 roku ukazał się High/Low, debiutancki albumNada Surf. Pochodzący z niego singel Popular stał się wielkim przebojem, ale także powodem dla którego na wiele lat zespół skończył jako tak zwany artysta jednego przeboju. A jednak, jakimś cudem udało im się wymknąć tylnymi drzwiami. Zostawili za sobą całą popularność jaką w latach dziewięćdziesiątych przyniosła im obecność w MTV i odnieśli sukces zaczynając od nowa. Ich trzeci album Let Go z 2002 roku okazał się wizytówką nowej dekady, wielkim sukcesem, który sprawił, że obok Death Cab For Cutie stali się głównym źródłem inspiracji dla zespołów z kręgu college rocka. Choć Nada Surf przygotowując swoje rockowe piosenki zawsze charakteryzował się nadwyżką mocy, dodanie drugiego gitarzysty Douga Gillarda (wcześniej z Guided By Voices), wprowadziło do ich muzyki brzmieniową różnorodność i dodatkowy wymiar.
